Prince Harry turns 25 - eligible to get $17m

Prince Harry, third in line to the British throne, turns 25, and inherits the financial legacy left to him by his late mother, Princess Diana.

Prince Harry, third in line to the British throne, had a low-key 25th birthday on Tuesday, when Prince Harry became eligible for some of the $17 million inheritance left by his mother, Princess Diana.Prince Harry and his older brother, Prince William, received an equal share worth $17 million of Princess Diana's estate following her death in a car crash in Paris in 1997.It is understood Harry will not touch the money for now - it has been invested, although it is not known how it has been affected by the economic downturn.

Changes agreed to the will after Princess Diana's death meant that, upon reaching 25, William and Prince Harry would be entitled to the whole of the income from their share.

The trustees of the will can pay over capital at any time, but when the princes turn 30, they can ask for their share of the capital in full.

Harry spent his birthday flying helicopters as part of his training to become an Army Air Corps pilot at a Royal Air Force base in Shropshire, central England, where William is also training to be a helicopter pilot.
