There were other great women who pounded the red carpet before Ms Jolie. In 2006, designer Narciso Rodriguez made three dresses for seven-months-pregnant Best Supporting Actress nominee (and subsequent winner) Rachel Weisz to choose from for the Academy Awards ceremony.
At the same event last year, the low-profile Nicole Kidman celebrated her long-awaited pregnancy in a simple black number from Balenciaga, and blinged it up with a dazzling L’wren Scott necklace.Cate Blanchett, heavily pregnant at eight months, glowed in a blue satin Dries Van Noten gown, Lorraine Schwartz jewellery and a Roger Vivier clutch, on the same red carpet.
The paparazzi also fawned over Jessica Alba, seven months pregnant and so chic in a purple Marchesa gown and Cartier diamonds.
Look back to 2003 and gorgeous Catherine Zeta Jones comes to mind, almost bursting out of her black gown as she accepts an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for Chicago.
